Child’s Play Pediatric Mural, 22′ x 4′, 2006
NeuroDevelopment Center at Hasbro Children’s Hospital, Providence, RI
by Charles C. Clear III and Bonnie Lee Turner
Child’s Play Pediatric Mural is a custom designed hand painted mural that was created for the entrance to the Neurodevelopment Center at Hasbro Children’s Hospital. The mural was painted on heavyweight canvas in The Art of Life studio, then installed on site in the Spring of 2006. The mural features a montage of nine happy children gathered together under a bright blue sky. Some of the children depicted in the mural, such as Matty Siravo, (the boy at right in blue pajamas) were once patients at Hasbro. The mural was a great success, and we are honored to have had the opportunity to create a life-affirming mural for such a wonderful healthcare facility.
Fast Forward: In the summer of 2014, we were told by Hasbro Children’s Hospital that the Neurodevelopment Center would be moving to a new facility on Prairie Avenue in Providence. Because our Child’s Play Pediatric Mural was painted on canvas, it could be removed from the wall and installed at the new facility. The mural was placed on a wall above the entrance – safe from chocolate hand-prints and the crayon work of budding abstract artists. The Mural was still in great shape, but it had suffered some minor damage during the move, and our services were needed for repair and restoration. On July 30th of 2014, we visited the new facility, and spent two hours cleaning and repainting the affected areas. The Mural looks new again! We love painting Murals in Hospitals, and we’re pleased to have had the opportunity to create a life-affirming work of art for such a wonderful health care facility!
