Yogurt Beach Painting, 2013
by Charles C. Clear III and Bonnie Lee Turner
Beach Painting at Yogurt Beach, which is a fun, beach-themed yogurt shop in Plainville, Massachusetts. They have every kind of yogurt and topping imaginable, which you can enjoy beside a big tiki hut, on surfboard tabletops, while listening to lots of good reggae music.
In December of 2013, we painted this scenic Mural in their store. It features a Caribbean beach scene, with calm turquoise water, a gentle surf lapping against the light sandy shore, lush green islands, palm trees, seagulls, a sailboat, and foliage springing up from behind the booths.
The Mural stretches across two walls – a large 12’6″ wall on the south side of the store, a 5’7″ wall which leads to a window, and a 4′ wall that is just to the left of the entrance. We chose to paint the palm tree with the big palm fronds in the corner as a way to soften the harsh angle, unify the two walls, and create a nice 3D effect.
We also painted clouds on every wall of this large store. With 20′ ceilings and walls that measure nearly 50′ feet across, it was a fairly big space to fill. We worked off a small hydraulic lift and finished the project in about a week. Our painted clouds have a dreamy, calming, magical feel, and from what we hear they’ve been very well received by the customers and staff of Yogurt Beach.
This Mural was the first Mural that we painted at a Yogurt Beach yogurt shop. In 2015, we painted another wall to wall Mural at their new Yogurt Beach yogurt shop in Hopkinton, Massachusetts.
