For your review and consideration, following is a design for the crosswalk in Monument Square.

The design features piano keys stretching from curb to curb. The subject matter is a perfect fit for a crosswalk, is instantly recognizable, and signifies that music is being made in the Theater District.

The Piano Key Crosswalk would be very popular. The 3-D optical illusion of piano keys would be eye-catching, attention-getting, capture peoples imagination as it celebrates the arts, and the surprise of such an unusual  work of art would lend itself to safety.

There was a scene in the movie BIG where Tom Hanks and Robert Loggia played “Chopsticks” on a giant piano in FAO Schwartz. It’s likely that people would want to reenact that scene and have their picture taken on the crosswalk.

The total cost to paint the Piano Key Crosswalk is $4800. The price covers and includes all labor and materials necessary to create the work on site.

The City would have to pressure wash the crosswalk area in advance of painting.

In light of the traffic, the City would have to formulate a plan for how the crosswalk could be painted safely and given enough time to dry.

Project can commence in July.

Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks,

Bonnie
