Giant Cow Mural on Barn, 60′ x 22′, 2023

This enchanting mural was commissioned by New England Ice Cream Corporation and features cows grazing in a pasture under a beautiful blue sky. It was painted on a barn shaped building that is right next door to Bliss Restaurant in Attleboro, and stands on ground that was once Bliss Bros.Dairy Farm, a thriving Dairy Farm with cows and pastures as far as the eye could see.
In this mural the two cows in the foreground are big – really BIG! The cow on the right stands about 20′ feet tall, and it’s face alone is 7½’ feet! Holy cow!! We made the two cows in the foreground as big as we possibly could for the space available because we wanted them to be seen at a distance – which they are – and we also wanted them to tower over the people who come to take selfies in front of the mural. So far there have been scores of people taking pictures in front of the giant cows!
The only hard part of painting this mural was the surface. It’s a corrugated metal barn with vertical ridges that rise nearly two inches every foot. You can see them if you look closely at the picture. In between these tall ridges there are three smaller ones. The ridges made painting nice clean lines really really difficult, and it made painting sweeps of fur or bent blades of grass almost impossible! We have painted murals on a million different surfaces but never one this difficult. Nearly every brush stroke was an uphill climb. Even so, we shouldered on and kept brushing until the vision we had in our heads for an eye-catching, attention-getting cow mural was realized.
The Mural has received overwhelming positive feedback, with coverage in local papers, and a lively presence on social media.
When you see one of our finished murals, you can’t imagine the wall looking any other way. But there was a time when this wall did look another way. This picture was taken before we began work on the mural. Compare the before and after shots and you’ll see the amazing transformation!
