Hospital Beach Painting
4′ x 4′, Acrylic on Canvas, 2011
Center for Pediatric Infectious Disease, Hasbro Children’s Hospital
by Charles C. Clear III
This Beach Mural was commissioned by Hasbro Children’s Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island. The goal of this Beach Mural was to illustrate several ‘Healthy Habits’ for kids. I chose to depict eating right, drinking plenty of water, wearing sun protection, and learning through play. These habits are nicely showcased in a brightly colored scene of a Mom and two kids building a sand castle on the Narragansett Town Beach in Narragansett, Rhode Island. You can see the historic Narragansett Towers in the distance. Note the basket with fruit and water, the sunblock on the sand, the hats and glasses, and the castle under construction. Behind them the surf is crashing, and overhead the pastel blue sky is filled with billowy white clouds. It’s a charming scene!
The Beach Mural painting was originally intended for a treatment room at the Center for Pediatric Infectious Disease. However, it was so popular with patients, staff, and visitors that it was moved to the entrance of the facility.
