Justice Florence Murray Portrait by Artist Bonnie Lee Turner

Justice Florence Murray Portrait
20″ x 25.5″, Charcoal and Pastel on Paper, 1990
by Bonnie Lee Turner

Justice Florence Murray was Rhode Island’s first female judge. She spent four decades on the bench – first on the state Superior Court, and later as a justice on the Rhode Island Supreme Court. A remarkable woman who led a life of great accomplishment, Murray died in 2004.

This portrait of Florence Murray was created for a large Portrait exhibit that I had at T.F. Green Airport’s East Concourse Gallery in 1990. Following that, this portrait of Murray was on display for an extended time at the Newport County Court House, which has since been named after her.
