Sailboat Mural in Treatment Room, 8′ x 8′, 2009,
Tomorrow Fund Clinic at Hasbro Children’s Hospital, Providence, RI
by Charles C. Clear III and Bonnie Lee Turner
This Sailboat Mural is a tribute to a courageous young man named Robert Fye. Robert was from Middletown, Rhode Island, and he was a patient at the Hospital. Sadly he passed away in early 2008. The memorial Sailboat Mural features three teens sailing aboard Robert’s boat ‘The Sea Lark’. In the mural the teens are sailing past Purgatory Chasm and towards Easton’s Beach in Newport, which symbolizes moving from rough water into calm seas.
The 8′ x 8′ Sailboat Mural was commissioned by Lifespan Inc. It was painted in The Art Of Life studio on heavyweight canvas. Once complete, it was then installed like wallpaper on a wall of a treatment room at the Tomorrow Fund Clinic at Hasbro Children’s Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island.
Painting murals on heavyweight canvas in our Art Studio and then installing them on site is a popular option for many hospitals. While a mural can sometimes take weeks to paint, it only takes an hour or two to install. Therefore, an eye-catching highly detailed mural can suddenly appear on the wall of a hospital without almost any interruption of the space. And best of all, the mural can be removed and relocated should the Hospital ever decide to renovate.
Over the years we have painted a number of Murals for Lifespan’s partner Hospitals, including the large scenic Mural in the cafeteria of Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, as well as Murals in hallways, waiting rooms, treatment rooms, and also several Murals at Bradley Hospital in East Providence, Rhode Island.
